Location of the Class:

Required equipment:
- Guitar
- Acoustic guitar - either nylon or steel string.
- Electric guitar - there are limited plug-ins available. No large amps, please!
- Several guitar picks.
- Paper and pencil to take notes.
- All printed class material will be provided.
Nice to have (but not required):
- Music stand - these are really handy when playing along.
- Electronic guitar tuner.
- Guitar chord book.
- Foot stand - I'll explain in class.
Classes:
- Start with two simple chords and add to these each week.
- Learn to strum chords (and sing) to some easy Christian songs.
- The teacher will include many "rules of thumb" for effective guitar
playing!
- Some music theory presented, but only enough to understand how certain things
work.
- A music CD will be provided that includes the songs we cover.   Warning!   The instructor can not sing very well!
Philosophy of the class (why I do this):
- I have taught classic guitar and other forms of guitar playing since I was in college.   At that time I charged for lessons (I was a poor college student).   Since then, for over thirty years, I have not charged for lessons.   I just enjoy teaching music.
- Obviously since I am a pastor there is a Christian element to what I do.   So we sing Christian songs and use Christian music.
- Let's be plain, I love God and love to worship Him.   And music can be a beautiful form of worship.
- However, I don't pressure anyone to change churches or even become Christian.   There will be printed Christian material available if you are interested, or you can talk to me about faith issues after class.   But the classes are provided as a church outreach to teach guitar playing.
- I began these guitar classes for the public, through Amazing Grace, in September 2002 and we have had about 180 students so far.
- We also have enjoyed several of these guitar class graduates playing music in the praise team at Amazing Grace.   That's always a lot of fun!
- Just remember, the lessons you learn here can be used for any kind of music.
Parents Note:
- Parents are encouraged to sit in the class with students.
- This provides your child with an extra "set of ears" to hear what is being taught.
- Parents have the option to share material and play along!
- Children 16 and under must have a parent on the premises.
Invite your friends:
- Do you have friends that want to learn to play guitar?
- Invite them, too!
- Each student must register so tell your friends to email Amazing Grace as soon as possible.
