The board for Amazing Grace voted last year to "daughter out" a new church within five years, this after due prayer and meditation. We realize that this is the essence of "discipling all nations" (Matthew 28:19-20).   Thus, we constantly try to keep in mind that discipling the congregation is essential to our mission.   This works itself out in our teaching style of ministry and in the ways in which we provide opportunity for growth within the church body. Also, as a relatively new fixture in north Tacoma, Amazing Grace attempts to work with individuals and organizations in the neighborhood.   As an example, Amazing Grace conducts music classes (guitar) as an outreach about three times a year for all who want to attend and learn. Amazing Grace first worshipped together March 31, 2002 (Easter Sunday).   This came as a result of a realignment within the church to become independent from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination.   The previous name of the church was New Creation Christian Church. Pastor Byron Singleton began New Creation in October 2000, starting with a small core group of believers.   The church worshipped at 56th and Pine in Tacoma at that time. New Creation moved to its 15th and Mildred facility (Tahoma Vista Village community center) in January 2002, then changed its name to Amazing Grace in March of that year. After Byron stepped down, pastor Kim Hastings took over as the interim pastor for about ten months.   He later became senior pastor at Eastside Christian Church, a larger congregation at 57th and McKinley in Tacoma. Pastor Mark Latham has been senior pastor at Amazing Grace since pastor Kim left, this was January 2003. Click here for further information on the early days of AGCC: Pastor Byron Amazing Grace moved from the community center at Tahoma Vista Village to the chapel at Northwest Baptist Seminary in April 2006.   This beautiful facility is on the grounds of the old Weyerhaueser mansion in north Tacoma. What an awesome blessing this has been! Amazing Grace, still a small body of believers, has begun ministry in several significant ways within the community in north Tacoma.   We look forward to many more years of fruitful interaction as "Good Neighbors".
